The project includes research laboratories with support services, research office spaces, computer node and a vivarium. The project has defined criteria for structural vibrations in the laboratory and vivarium spaces. The criteria presents the maximum permitted velocity levels from all continuos and transient vibration sources. Continuos vibration sources shall include all building support equipment (mechanical, electrical, plumbing and elevator) operating at design conditions and transient vibration sources shall include people walking. The defined criterion ranges from 600 to 2000 micro-inches/second in the laboratory spaces. Major challenges included structure design to ensure the project will meet strict specified vibration criteria. Analysis included finite element analysis of structure to determine response to footfall and equipment vibration. Additional challenges included acoustical ambiance and building systems noise and vibration control. |
