Croul Hall is a 58,000 sf design/build laboratory building to house Earth Science Systems. The facility consists of a three-story building and a full built-out basement that functions as a research laboratory and office area with a large 3-story high atrium at the lobby. The structure consists of cast-in-place concrete slab and beam, floors and roof supported on cast-in-place concrete columns. The foundation system consists of shallow continuous strip footings along interior column lines and under all shear walls, perimeter walls and basement walls. The estimated construction cost is $17 Million. Major challenges included structure design to ensure the project will meet strict specified vibration criteria. Analysis included finite element analysis of structure to determine response to footfall and equipment vibration.
