The project ’s design – a simple, but elegant box – will maximize northern light/exposure, and a bridge connecting the existing library to the addition will create a reading courtyard. The library will serve as a symbolic anchor to pedestrian axis, and a vertical circulation system within the facility will serve both the existing library and the addition. Main program elements include a multicultural center, learning center, CSU system archives, and grand reading rooms – one of which will run the full length of the building and overlook the north courtyard.
